Experiencing Holidays

Saturday, December 12th, 2009, Luca DiMatteo

Lights flashing, music chiming, treats baking and a chill is in the air!

The holidays are here and all of our senses are bouncing in every direction.   We begin that hurried run around, buying presents, dashing to and fro, preparing lavish meals and of course, spending time with our loved ones.

What is the true importance of these holidays that we so feverishly course through each year.  Is it the presents?  Is it the food or the music? Perhaps the true importance of these holidays is Community.  Our bodies long for the togetherness of family and friends.  By our human nature we are social beings that thrive on the bonding we have with others.

This holiday as you spend time with family and friends and someone pushes your buttons (because there is always someone who does) and you get angry or irritated, remember that spending time with others is your human nature. It is what your heart wishes more than anything else.  So take advantage of the holiday moment and listen to your body and make the most of your holiday by experiencing community with your heart.

Creating a heart felt holiday is truly the best gift we will ever give and receive. Sharing yourself in community to the fullest will be a reward that will live on for a long time.

Try making this a holiday of experience, blog us and let us know how your body being holiday made you feel.

As I get into HOLIDAY SPIRIT with so much JOY in my heart, my intent as I play into the season is to be fully present with each being I encounter, sharing fully the message of LOVE, which is so simple, just being there with the other in full communion. It is full enjoyment, savoring the words, the touch, the laughter, the celebration, the tears, the warmth and synchronized movement as we honor our breathing and sensing. ONE’S LOVE IS CONTAGIOUS, ENJOY!!!

Marta, Thank you for the lovely blog. I was touched by the words. Can you share some more on how love is contagious? I have found that even just a smile as you pass a stranger makes them a friend for that moment. Have you experienced similar joys of spreading unconditional love?

    Hi Laura and Luca,
Thank you for your wonderful newsletter. I agree with you wholeheartedly that we all crave community in some way or another, and all express that desire differently depending on whether we are extraverted or introverted, young or old, a city dweller or live in the country, etc etc etc. With holiday parties, that community building is easy, enriching, and celebratory. And at the same time I am reminded frequently of the other kind of community building- far more mundane- and yet profoundly important to all of us- that depends on a kind of daily discipline of cleaning up after ourselves, anticipating other people’s needs, taking responsibility for our impact on others (even when it wasn’t intended), and following through doing what we promised we would do. All those unrecognized things that people do for one another every day- from taking out the garbage to just listening to one another, are like the many pillars in a cathedral. Without them, we’d collapse. And what’s wonderful about it is that we have the opportunity to BE in community through these little mundane things every moment of every day. What a blessing.

    Mary

Most often, we think of viruses as bad things, as most of the time they disrupt some type of balance that exists. Marta’s invitation got me thinking – what if we consider LOVE a virus, and we invite it into our lives to disrupt any imbalance where love does not exist??

SPIRIT We sense that there is an infinite universe outside of us, that we desire unity with it, and that in this unity, we recognize it as ourselves.

BALANCE We create harmonious flow in ourselves and our surroundings to allow free movement between heart’s desire and its manifestation in our daily lives.

EARTH We mobilize this flow with every thought and action to support a global community characterized by balance and unity.
