Body Being – Imagine Tapping Into Your Body

Body Being

Body Being is dedicated to honoring all aspects of who we are.  That means taking care of our physical and energetic bodies to create balance and promote healthy living.

IMAGINE TAPPING INTO YOUR BODY

Imagine tapping into your body, mind and spirit in each moment and listening to what the self is communicating. When we have the desire to hear what our bodies need, it opens a pathway of self-care. Consciously practicing self-care allows us to live at our full potential, and we, in turn, create a relationship based on love and respect. From this point of view, we care for ourselves not because we “should” but because we want to. In consciously caring for our bodies in this way, we promote health and emotional stability, which supports harmony within ourselves and throughout our world. Are we ready to create a deeper relationship with ourselves – feeding our bodies, minds and souls what they yearn for?

In the northern hemisphere, it is the heart of winter. Often during this time of year we may feel that we have less energy, are at times depressed and sometimes even feel anxious. We passed through winter solstice, the day with the least amount of sunlight, and now the light in increasing. What actions can we take to merge with this season and use the gifts of winter to feed our bodies and souls?

In recognizing winter’s cycle, we can allow our bodies to restore and rebalance. During this time of the year longer hours of darkness shift our circadian rhythms (our internal clock) to produce extra melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that deepens sleep. In addition, melatonin also boosts the immune system and promotes longevity. If we can be kind to ourselves during this “yin”(internal) time, we have the chance to allow our systems to rest and cultivate energy by allowing more sleep and to balance this rest with movement and fresh air. Other ways we can restore balance and create energy is to be aware of our intake of sugars and consider eating more fiber, whole grains, fresh seasonal vegetables and organic fruits. Consider the old saying, “we are what we eat”. When we feed our systems healthy, clean, food we promote wellness within our beings.

Each season has particular characteristics. Winter is considered the cold season and in Chinese Medicine it pertains to Kidney energy. It is vital at this time that we take-in even more water than usual for our physiological function. In many healing modalities it is a common recommendation to consume a daily amount of water equal to half of our weight (in pounds) in ounces. A great way to achieve this can be to make a vat of your favorite decaffeinated tea and drink it throughout the day. Add a slice of fresh ginger to aid in digestion and warm the body too.

During the winter our skin can become dehydrated. Often if we have a skin condition we will witness a flare up during the winter. Have you ever heard of a body brush? A body brush sloughs off dead skin, massages muscles and promotes blood flow. An environmentally sound brush made of vegetable fibers can be used before showering. Brushing toward the heart will maximize the detoxifying benefits. Once showered, a wonderful gift to our skin is to massage in an organic coconut oil. Why not make our shower a ritual of love and admiration for our bodies?

If we remember that life has a rhythm then we can benefit from winter’s gifts. During this time of year we can join the natural cycle of life by slowing down, by allowing ourselves extra rest, by listening to our bodies needs and caring for ourselves naturally. In consciously choosing to embrace this cycle, we fully benefit from the quiet and comfort of winter’s blanket. In respecting the process of the earth, we respect our own process and can BE the natural rhythm of life.

What a gift it is to listen to life’s call and be the full expression of nature and nurture!

SPIRIT We sense that there is an infinite universe outside of us, that we desire unity with it, and that in this unity, we recognize it as ourselves.

BALANCE We create harmonious flow in ourselves and our surroundings to allow free movement between heart’s desire and its manifestation in our daily lives.
