Welcome to Spring! Are you ready to step out anew? How do we fortify and grow the dreams we have been nurturing all winter? How do we live in a new way, born from the fullness of our hearts?

Each of us has a unique and necessary purpose in this life. Fulfilling that unique and necessary purpose leads to the evolution of human consciousness in this world. We could say that our only goal in life is to identify this purpose and to live it!

The unique and necessary purpose we are referring to is not an ego-driven thing, but rather, a heart-driven thing. It is recognizing the importance of each one of us stepping-up and full filling the role that only we can play in this world, based on our specific abilities and the particular sensitivities that our life’s experiences have taught us. No one person’s role or ability is more important than another - all are crucial, and all look different. But they all come together like the parts of the body to form a well-functioning whole. Think of if this way, the heart doesn’t sit around lamenting that it does not do what the brain does, nor do the lungs wish they could do what the kidneys do! All are necessary and all are unique, but they create a totality where the sum of the parts is greater than the whole. The same can be said for each of us in relation to the whole of humanity.

The key to living our unique and necessary purpose is to recognize that it comes from the inside out - that our individual gifts and sensitives are like no other’s. When we focus our attention on what others are doing or what their gifts look like, we distract ourselves from looking where we can really find our own gold: inside our hearts, shaped from our life’s experiences.

Here are some clues to reveal your unique and necessary purpose:

What makes your heart sing? Even thinking about our unique and necessary purpose will lift our hearts. Now this is a feeling to pay attention to, as it will be your guide!

Remember the dreams you had for yourself as a child - our unique and necessary purpose has been with us from the beginning, revealing itself through what seemed to come to us “naturally”. As we grow, we get distracted, or “practical”, or discouraged in some way or another from following that path, and all of the life experience we gain along the way of “forgetting” creates the skill set we need to fulfill our unique and necessary purpose right now, today.

Look at what comes easily to you. We often dismiss our gifts as not valuable because we perceive that “anyone can do this” or “it can’t be this easy”. We are well-suited for our gifts, and do not need to make thongs complicated or difficult to make them valuable.

…and some tools to put your unique and necessary purpose into action:

Choose every action from the center of your heart. To do this, feel a memory of your heart singing, and use this as the quality measure for the action you are contemplating. Does what you are contemplating feel similar in quality to the memory? If so, then say YES!

Notice how mind chatter reduces your heart-centered feeling. Notice the “I can’ts”, the “I shouldn’ts” and the “it’s impossibles”. When you have observed how these thoughts disconnect you from your heart, then you can see that you have an option: to choose from the chatter or to choose from your heart.

Imagine what you desire as if it’s already done. What does it feel like right now, in this moment, to live your unique and necessary purpose? What would it feel like t do this every day? What would it feel like if everyone in the world lived this way?

We live in a world that is fast paced and changing in every moment. Some times we may feel that we can’t keep up, or we are worth less than others, or perhaps that we don’t even count. This is the very moment that we need to be the most clear with ourselves. Each and every one of us has chosen to come and take human form on this planet and we bring a specific, unique breathe to the community known as mankind.

Imagine if this was not true. Imagine if we had no specialness, no uniqueness; how would humanity evolve? What if we all discovered fire and that was it? What if no one put his uniqueness into action? There would be nothing new invented. Imagine a world without a paper clip or a post-it note. Imagine a world without the everyday objects that we take for granted. Even the smallest and simplest things took the specialness and uniqueness of an individual to come to be.

Each and everyday it is your specialness, your uniqueness that changes some part of mankind. It may not be noticed, but it certainly does contribute to the collective energy of humanity. We would ask you to take a moment each day and give yourself glorious praise for being that special, unique being that gives mankind life. We would like you to stop and imagine the next time you reach for even the simplest object what would happen if someone didn’t make the most of their uniqueness to create that object. Please blog and let us know what you find.

Welcome to Spring!

This month we celebrate Spring Equinox in lands north of the Equator. Equinox means “equal nights”, and all over the world perfect balance exists as we experience 12 hours of sunlight and 12 hours of darkness. For the soils of Mother Earth, as the amount of light increases, so begins the next cycle of rebirth. As winter’s hibernation phase is coming to a close, life exposes itself, and with that there is a call for new growth. How can we embody the energy of spring? We can allow the gift of light to enter into our being to feed our bodies and nourish our souls. We can plant seeds of conscious intent. We can LIVE!

Our bodies are made of matter, light transforms matter, and matter is energy. Our bodies are made of cells, and our cells have memory. Each moment of our life, whether consciously remembered or not, is embedded within our cells. All of our experiences and everything we witness has been downloaded into our bodies. As we practice awareness, we begin to recognize that we believe what our cells carry and that these beliefs become our reality. When we recognize that our cells are made of energy we can begin the process of shifting our beliefs. As we shift our beliefs, we shift our perception and ultimately, our reality.

By consciously breathing in light we can transmute any hibernating energy, locked deep within our bodies, which is not based on self-love. How does this work? When we witness our thoughts we see that our thoughts are based on beliefs. Is a particular belief true? Perhaps it is, perhaps it is not. Ultimately, our perception determines that. How can we tell the difference? Truth holds an energetic quality of tranquility in our bodies. Something that is not true or something that goes against our divine nature holds the quality of disharmony and this makes us feel uncomfortable. In using conscious breath to release beliefs that go against ourselves, we begin the process of transforming our cellular structure. When we release old energy from our cells, space is created and available to seed pure intent.

Our bodies are the soil of our being. As we till our soil we bring air to those places that have been buried. As we breathe in love our soil becomes love. Our soil then becomes a pure place where heart-felt desires and dreams are planted, nourished and cultivated. Moment by moment, we feed the garden of our being by breathing in light and fortify our bodies with love.

In this fertile soil, we recognize the illuminating quality of our individual journey, supported by our surroundings, which opens the gateway for heart’s intent and soul’s purpose to enter. While we recognize our individual journey and shed light to what we wish to transform, we open the gateway for heart’s intent and soul’s purpose. As we willingly embrace our process and open to the energies that feed and sustain us, we fully live. It is true. We can support every aspect of our existence by simply bringing awareness to our breath, which is, of course, the gift of LIFE itself!

Here are a few suggestions to aid in this process:

Meditation: Holding the intent of pure transformative light, breathe into every cell of your body for the count of eight, hold your breath for a count of four, breathe out any sensation that feels heavy or stuck for the count of eight, then hold your breath again for a count of four. Find a comfortable pace for your breathing and feel the rhythm of your being.

“Our problems are in our consciousness, and not in our world.”

While reading these words of Krishnamurti I began to wonder if all the problems we see in the environment are simply metaphors for the state within us that we are projecting onto the planet. Listening to our words about planetary health could be rephrased to describe ourselves: We are in crisis. We are polluted with the poisons of our past notions and actions, we are damaged beyond repair. We lack the ability to heal ourselves. There are holes in our (atmospheric) boundaries. Many of our gifts are now extinct and more are being wasted everyday. We are running out of energy. There are not enough resources. We are not fully valued and respected. We act counter to our best interests to satisfy an immediate craving. It’s almost too late.

Sound familiar?

This is not to say we are not truthfully seeing crisis on our planet; we cannot deny what we see and experience. But what we SEE doesn’t necessarily MEAN what we assume. If we are out of balance, then we will of course experience unbalance on our planet, as we are one organism with it. Jacquelyn Small says it this way: “We cannot just go out and save the world; we must first save the psyche who images the world!” The awareness of our connectedness with Earth and owning our power and responsibility regarding this relationship, and to ourselves are what matters. The choices that spring from this knowingness are inevitably balanced ones.

Whether consciously or not, we are co-creating everything that we experience in our lives. We live in a consensual reality. We are not only in league with other humans, but with the natural beings of the planet and the forces of the Universe. Claiming the power of choice and choosing with awareness are absolutely vital for us as humans. It is owning our role as creator. When fully operating from this state, we see everything else around us doing the same thing—Creating!

We have some big changes to make in our lives and in our world as many of us are not pleased with what we’ve created in the past. It is tempting to feel powerless to change the huge structures that exist—the ways our food is grown and marketed, the business of producing our clothing, how we live and keep ourselves healthy, our building and transportation systems. Just learning which choices we prefer is daunting! Being informed is a big task. We’ve believed our choices are black, white or none because that’s the way they’ve shown up on our breakfast tray.

Even if we could feel confident that one choice is best for all concerned, what difference would just one alternative choice make to influence change in the greater whole? By seeing our part in this consensual reality and withdrawing our participation in that which we no longer wish to see, we are free to make an informed alternative choice. This is choosing with awareness! This alternative choice-making has a cumulative effect. Obama’s online fundraising campaign, which was enormously successful by harnessing small donations from large numbers of ordinary citizens, is a great example of this principle.

If you still question your influence, as one person exercising your role as creator, ask yourself what are the consequences of refusing your power of choice? Yeah, that’s right. Look around. The consequences reverberate from the personal to the planetary and right back again.

In the coming months I’ll be exploring some everyday issues that directly affect the larger environment, with the hope of making more informed choices. Please join me and don’t forget to write in to share how you are exercising your creator muscles.

Meanwhile, feel free to use these mantras to keep yourself motivated and supported in your quest for more informed choices:

Start small but make some steady progress, refuse to be overwhelmed. Being overwhelmed prevents me from staying awake to the options.

I refuse to self-judge about past choices, keep trying. Self-judgment prevents me from staying awake.

I don’t have to know everything about every choice. I make the best choices I can with what I know right now. I intend to stay open to and to seek more information so that I may choose even more wisely next time.

Sitting on the Fence?

Greetings

We have noticed a lot of fence sitting lately - have you? Lots of us waiting to make a choice or to take an action. Waiting for this or that detail to be worked out. Waiting for the economy to get better. Waiting for [...]

We have noticed a lot of fence sitting lately - have you? Lots of us waiting to make a choice or to take an action. Waiting for this or that detail to be worked out. Waiting for the economy to get better. Waiting for the economy to get worse. Waiting for a path to be clear amidst what appears to be conflicting or overwhelming choices. At least two things happen with a “wait and see” attitude. First, we put the power and responsibility to shift or evolve a circumstance outside of ourselves. We are the creators of not only what comes into our lives, but how we react to it all. If we take a wait and see attitude, well, then we will get exactly that: a wait and see outcome. Second, when we choose to wait and see, we put ourselves in limbo, taking ourselves out of the only place we experience life: the present moment.

Sitting on the fence or waiting for the perfect moment is like waiting to live. Why wait to live? This moment is here now, and then it’s gone. Make the choice to get off the fence and to take the action to live now. The action can be as subtle as shifting a perception of a situation or as grand as changing the course of a career. By engaging conscious perception and conscious choice, we connect with what is true for us in this instant, and we open the door not only to our heart’s desire, but to live now.

Here are some helpful tools to LIVE NOW:

BREATHE. Consciously breathe. Anxiety and worry cause an automatic reaction in our bodies that takes us out of our center and into a fight or flight response. Consciously take a deep breath. A deep breath is the fastest way to calm ourselves and to bring us to the present moment.

CONNECT TO NATURE. Take a walk on the beach, in the woods, on a mountain or in a field. Connect with a part of the world that is not affected by beliefs and opinions. Feel yourself as no different that that tree, that mountain, or that wave.

ENGAGE ALL OF YOUR SENSES. We depend heavily on sight as our primary way of perceiving the world, but we have other ways to experience! Listen to the wind, rain or snowfall. Feel the warmth of the fire. Smell the soup cooking on the stove. Touch the soft, fuzzy blanket. When we engage all of our senses, it is hard to not feel alive and in the moment.

LOVE YOUR BODY. Exercise. Eat well. Lavish attention on the physical you. Taking care of our bodies supports us in living in the moment by keeping us fresh and healthy, and our attitude follows. It can be as simple as a bubble bath or a self-massage after the shower every day.

GIVE GRATITUDE. Spend two minutes every morning before you get out of bed expressing gratitude for your life.
We have all built our box of safety, comfort, familiarity. This is the place where no harm, or more appropriately, no perceived harm can come to us. But every now and then we long to venture out of this box, to make change, or to create something different. Many times we become frightened and we run right back and climb into the box. What is that scares us? I would like to offer up the concept that it is fear of the unfamiliar, breaking away from our comfort zone, which causes a sense of impending harm and makes us what to scurry back to our box.

We present a challenge to you. Take a chance, do something outside of your comfort zone, something that you have to come out of you box of safety to create. Perhaps it could be sing Karaoke. Perhaps call an old friend that you did something, well not so pleasant to, and create an opening for a new friendship. Maybe, it could be just sitting and enjoying the sun for an afternoon even though you believe that you are way too busy.

Please take us up on my challenge and blog me back to let me know what you experienced when you were Breaking Out of the Box!

Even as an adult, the thought of hearing the phrase, “Your presence is requested”, conjures up many scary memories of past wrong doings. So let’s look at this phrase as a key to opening up yourself to moments in your life. Those moments that I’m speaking of are moments of being totally aware of what you are experiencing in the precise second that it is happening.

The next time you sit down to eat a meal take a moment to Request Your Presence, notice how the chair feels that you’re sitting in, the weight of the utensil in your hand, the heat rising from your plate and whatever else you can experience for that moment.

Take the time to experience life and don’t just run through it in the dark. You can give yourself so much pleasure and fulfillment if you choose to Request Your Presence.

Blog me back and let me know what you experienced when “Your Presence is Requested”.
